These next ones are going to be a bit of a cheat, because the characters weren't created until the nineties or later, but the characters themselves would have been active in the Seventies.

Jessica Jones

It seems that Jessica Jones was destined to become a superhero, even if she was never a very good one. She went to school with Zeke Zimmerman and even had a crush on the shy boy from Queens. Unfortunately, he was beginning his life as Spiderman by the time she worked up the nerve to ask him out.

Her family was killed in an auto accident involving a military cargo truck full of toxic materials. Jessica was severely injured and stayed in a coma until 1966. She woke up on the same day that Richard Reade contacted the Devourer of Worlds. This unlikely combination of events is what gave her metahuman powers.

At least that's the way she tells it, but she could very well be lying.

She had a brief career as a masked adventurer under various names from the late 1960's to early 1970's. Her career ended when she came across a foe of the second Batman who was known as the Purple Man. The Purple Man used mind control to keep Jessica as his slave for almost a year, and then sent her to attack Batman II. His directions were not clear, and she ended up attacking a group of metahumans and mysterymen more powerful and experienced then herself. This would have been a suicide mission if not for the fact that Jessica was friends with Supergirl/Powerwoman. Kara Zor'il stood up for her and the others realized that she was under mental domination.

Jessica finally snapped out of it and the stress of the past year made her collapse into another coma. The psychic Jean White helped her through her coma and installed a psychic block that would make her more resistant to mental domination in the future.

After that experience, Jessica adopted a darker identity and called herself the Knightress. This was a name which pissed off Helena Kane/the Huntress to no end, and the daughter of Batman might have done something violent and stupid about it if Kara hadn't stepped in again. She worked with Luke Cage in capturing the second Penquin along with a bunch of organized crime types. One of the Mafia soldiers had brought his kids with him, so Jessica revealed her identity to the cops so that she could watch them until Social Services had a chance to place them with foster care. That case ended her career as a masked adventurer, but began her friendship with Luke Cage (the man who would one day father her child).

By the close of the decade, Jessica was working as a private eye instead of a masked adventurer. She still has some contacts in the mysteryman community, notably Luke Cage and Powerwoman, but that is no longer the life for her.
