Why is Eden Studios so slow... |

We were promised 4 new books for 09 at the end of last year. This year will be over before we even get an official update, whats the deal? Eden should take
"pre-orders" or something. There are plenty of us waiting to give them are hard earned cash.

Well let's see it is only a one or two man company. The economy sucks. They've had financial troubles, printer troubles and things of that nature
that have set them back.

Several previously released titles had sold out of their initial print runs so he ordered up a second (or third) printing of titles for AFMBE. Those print runs take money and time, but keep stores happy because people are buying the books. -Matt Horror Fiction from David Wellington, Jess Hartley, Shane Hensley, Monica Valentinelli, Derek Gunn and more! |

LoveSickDead wrote: given that a few releases in the last year or so had problems when it came to pre-order (not talking Eden, but other companies), people tend to pre-order less often than they used to. Add in the economy, and you have even less people doing pre-orders. pre-orders are not going to make much of a difference in the scheme of things

To put this in perspective, I preordered Arrgh! Thar Be Zombies about three years ago with a game store in Tallahassee FL. I have since pulled up
stakes and moved several hundred miles southeast of that city. I will not order a product until I know Eden has it in hand and ready to ship.

Combine that with the above reason (that the extra cash, especially in this economy, isn't going to make much of a difference), and I can't really blame Eden for foregoing pre-orders. Just my US$0.01. |

Speaking as someone who works in an industry that survives off of things like pre-orders (the videogame industry, blech...) it's true. Someone pre-orders
a game, and it gets pushed back, even two months, ( and this news could come out half a year from the original release date) and I have that customer in my
store getting his money back. The next time I ask that customer if he wants to pre-order something (we kinda have to, it really sucks) he simply says
"nah, I'll wait till it comes out" or "I'll wait till <insert game name here>'s release date is closer". Granted,
it's not the SAME thing as this situation, but the feelings can be similar. I've only pre-ordered books for an rpg series twice, and that's
because I was told I could... (dnd 3.5 and dnd 4th, which I later sold 4th off) and I WOULD pre-order books, but I'd have to be sure it'd be coming
out somewhere near the release date. (were talking a 6 month window)
Also, George, if your reading this, I will personally buy three copies of all the witchcraft supplements if they go back to print. I'll also buy three copies each of Book of Geburah, and Grace and Guidance. Same goes for the Armageddon and Witchcraft core books. (though I still need to buy the two armageddon supplements, but I bought the pdf of each of them)

Pre-orders? Blah!
I've seen pre-order problems with West End Games and Gaurdians of Order. Yes, two very extreme examples I know. But after seeing the problems with pre-orders, I do not see why anyone (Consumer and Produser) would subject themselves to the it. It apears to me that for some strange reason Murphies Law applies double for the gaming industry. Something always happens and pre-orders are just begging for that something to happen in spades. |

Well, the FLGS here got out of gaming because all of its regular gaming customers lost their jobs at roughly the same time. (Circuit City killed itself, the
economy went into the crapper, the construction boom went bust, and so on....) I'd be surprised if they haven't folded entirely by now.

Part of that is not over extending oneself by trying to carry multiple copies of all things for all people. That's the benefit of being able to take orders from customers rather than attempting to over-compensate for every possible consumer demand. This works just fine in all manner of other industries but, unfortunately, too many gaming stores are run by ambitious hobbyists who managed to turn their past time into a source of income, but don't actually know how to run a business once it strays outside their comfort zone of the obvious.
