Weapons - the difficulty I foresee is that they're upgradable in power - do you try to incorporate that in the game mechanics (maybe every so often, a nanyte pod that can augment something?), make things tougher with the low end of the power, hit had and fast with max damage, or take a mid-level stand and make everything even?

I can't remember the weapons off the top of my head - I've not played the second one either, yet, but:

Plasma Cutter = has to do slashing/ cutting damage to rip through limbs.
Supercollider Contact = Concentrated, maximum damage.
Forcegun - a short-range shotgun

That's all I can remember, other than the pulse rifle, which is just an assault rifle.
