"Taking Back the Night" was not a Deadworld in the way that most are. There was no massive Rise or anything like that. The dead were always capable of coming back to trouble the living and they would come back in various forms for various reasons. One area, it might be because of the ubiquitous toxic waste that seeped into the local cemetery. In another, a dead child might be terrorizing and murdering the living because it wants revenge on the parents who left it to die in the wilderness. The central premise was that the players were normal people who felt compelled to become hunters and destroyers of zombies, vampires and whatever else that refused to stay dead. Some characters, through their contact with these beings, might manifest supernatural abilities (Divine Inspiration or Psychic abilities, usually).
