I like the idea of evolving zombies, how did the players react?
You know, I like it too, especially for a campaign. My players love the evolving types. It keeps the zombie menace from getting stale. It doesn't have to be an intelligence shift, but just something different that they didn't expect. Keeps them on their toes.

To be on topic: I ran a one shot once where my brother was the bass player in a rock band. Their tour bus was headed from one town to another and was going through Podunkville USA. They had stopped at a roadside Motel to ask for directions and he got out to go ask and see if there were rooms available for the night. He could tell right away that something was off when he walked in. There was a broken lamp and a turned over chair and everything was in disarray. He walked up to the counter and went to hit the little bell and saw blood on the floor pooling. To which he said something like "um...nevermind..." and backed out of the place. A noise somewhere else in the office made him back out even faster.

He got outside and heard a gurgly moan from around the side of the motel as he was headed for the bus. He turned and looked to see what could only be a shambling corpse (explained in full gory detail of course) coming around the corner. I think his words were, "um...man we were just leaving. You need to go get that looked at..." or something like.

So he ran to the bus, jumped in, got in the driver's seat, started it up and hauled ass as fast as he could go down the road. Then I said: "as you fly down the road, hoping that this was just some strange drug trip something strange nags at the back of your mind. As you are sitting there, you feel as though something is dreadfully wrong. You turn slowly to look behind you...and no one is there!" Beat as the information sinks in. "AW CRAP!" He says, now realizing he left the rest of the band behind. So he screeches to a halt. Backs the bus up back up the road (having to roll for that one of course) and smashes a couple zombies as he screeches to a halt again in front of the Motel to see his band mates running up to the bus, being chased by a small horde of the undead. They pile on the bus and he hauls ass again.

The whole thing was hilarious because of his reactions and the fact that he thought I was going to tell him that there was a zombie on the bus with him. I love priceless reactions.

In another game I ran, he played the same character just to be easy and all the Cast were in another bus and his bandmates weren't in the game as NPCs this time. The zombies were Evil Dead types though. I reprised that situation where he slowly looks behind him into the back of the bus, but this time there was a zombie there right in his face. It was classic. He was going, "oh no. Not again." :rollin
