Hello,
I'm starting a game club on the Hudson Valley Community College campus. We're small at the moment, about 12 kids. We want to start planning special gaming events on campus and one of the students suggested I write local game stores to ask for advice.
Also, I was wondering if we ran some tournaments on campus if your store would have any interest in sponsering/advertising at them.
I don't know what would be involved paperwork/legality wise on the schools end at this point but i thought I'd ask.
At the moment we are thinking of doing the following.
1 - setting up a game library on campus where kids can check out different games like risk 2210, settlers and so on to play on campus.
2 - running tournaments like a magic draft or regular with booster packs as prizes (this appears to be a big interest on campus).
3 - eventually running video game tournaments/sessions in lecture halls on big projectors (if the faculty can be shown it won't have any legal consiquences) and maybe even some WoW raids.
4 - Getting local game industry professionals to come speak to our club about the gaming industry and how to get involved in it as a career.
we'll be getting some funding from the school board in mid march and at that point we'll likely start getting some quotes from local game stores on products we want for the club. I think the system is set up so that we have to get three quotes from three different local stores.
I appreciate any feedback or help you are able to offer. I know this is kind of random but I thought it couldn't hurt.
