I use the same group for both, Buffy & Angel. The players just get to play different characters. Attempting to schedule two seperate groups to do a crossover would be a nightmare. Having just one group of players - to play different characters makes for an easier transition in a crossover event.

No - do not allow for the same player to play similar characters in each series. - Such as Angel & Buffy, or Giles & Wesley. Instead it I've found it's best for the players to mix the character archetypes - Experienced Hero/Champion, WhiteHat Investigator.

And the plan is to have several crossovers this season. Since the Basically storylines of Buffy & Angel will parallel each other.

Naturally to be considered a Crossover event - 1 or more major characters from one series need to appear on the other series.

So here's how it will go for this 4 parter.

"Heart's Quest" - Buffy, & Giles
"Hopeless" - Angel, & Wesley
"The Mouth of Hell" - The Scoobies (including Dawn ,Willow, and Xander
"The Phoenix" - Angel Investigations (Angel, Wesley, Cordelia, Gunn & Fred)

That's one of the reasons to have the players play a different type character in each series - so that there's a more fluid exchange between characters is in crossovers. Also it helps the players get a different perspective by having a different type character in each series.

Last season on Angel: Flashes of Angel attempting to save Darla.& her being resired by Drusilla, the reappearance of Angelus, sex between Angelus & Darla. Cordy going to Pylea, Angel, Wes, Gunn, and Lorne going afterCordy, who's been made princess of Pylea, the gang returning home, to discover Willow in the Hyperion's Lobby with news about Buffy, and a letter from her.

Last Season on BtVS: Flashes of Buffy fighting Glory, the death of Joyce, Angel comforting (making love) Buffy, in her bed, and Buffy jumping in a large dimensional gate, to save Dawn & Sunnydale. And Buffy in a different dimension.

Pilot Summary: Angel has spent the better part of 4 months attempting to get information about where Buffy is located. While Wes, Cordy & Gunn are keeping up with the cases at Angel Investigations.

And Now:
1.) The season opens about 18 weeks after the group's return from Pylea, and nearly 4.5 months after Buffy's disappearance.

2.) Angel has been searching for anything that can lead to information on finding Buffy's location.

3.) Cordelia & Wes attempt to explain to Gunn & Fred, what Buffy basically means to Angel.

4.) Angel fights a bunch of demons in a Chinese Buddhist Temple to learn the location (in Santa Monica) of an artifact, which will help him find information on Buffy's whereabouts.

5.) After returning to Los Angeles, Angel tracks down and is able to retrieve the artifact (a mystical axe) in Santa Monica. But is uncertain what exactly to do with it. So he returns to the Hyperion to have Wes look at it.

6.) Fred will venture down to the lobby to visit with Cordy, Gunn, Wesley & Angel, but she doesn't fell like she's ready to leave the Hotel yet, and see the world around her.

7.) Wesley attempts to finds out what the artifact is, however he can't find any information on it.

8.) Cordelia has a vision that Angel must complete a ritual to enter an ancient temple located a couple of miles outside Sunnydale, As only a champion may enter and only in the temple will Angel get the answers that he's looking for. Also he needs to take the artifact to the temple.

9.) Angel locates the ancient temple, and completes the ritual

10.) In the temple - Angel spots an old woman, who question him why he is there. To which he explains that he is there to seek answers to location of the Slayer, Buffy Summers.

11.) The old woman says that she can help, if he has the artifact. And if he's intentions are pure of heart. Angel says that he loves Buffy, and needs to find out if she's in trouble. He also presents the mystical axe.

12.) The old woman is able to see that he speaks the truth, and his intentions are honorable. So she informs him that the mystical axe is a weapon that will be wielded by the Slayer in the end times. That while any Slayer, may wield it, the mystical axe was crafted with a specific slayer in mind. But she also states that the exact time it will be needed is soon approaching.

13.) She then takes him to a large bowl with water in it. She then states to Angel - you wonder where your love has gone to, and how to get her back. Look in this bowl and you will have the answers to which you seek.

14.) Angel looks in bowl. He sees Buffy fighting 3 ancient looking vampires-type creatures, and quickly defeating them. Also he sees Buffy training with a little girl at her side - following Buffy's every motion. He sees more with Buffy & the little girl, who refers to Buffy as mommy. And he starts to realize that the little girl is likely his daughter - when Buffy refers to her(the girl's) father, as being a champion like herself, who is a half vampire, and the love of her life.

15.) Angel finds out that Buffy's located in a Realm, which is the source of the Slayer's power.

16.) And that only way for Buffy to return is to open the portal from her side. That it's impossible to attempt to open the portal from his side and get her out.

17.) He also finds out the next alignment(chance for opening) is only a week or two away.

18.) After Angel leaves the temple, he heads to the Magic Box in Sunnydale to inform Giles of what he's found out about Buffy. Expect that Buffy now has a daughter, and that he believes that he's the father.

19.) Also during the meeting with Giles, Angel tells Giles, that if something major comes up in Sunnydale, before Buffy's return to give him a call. As he can be there in about 2 hours.

20.) Meanwhile in Los Angeles, upon finding out that the Hellmouth may not be guarded by the Slayer. Lilah makes a mysterious phone call, informing the "person" on the other end that she needs to find out if it's true. Because, if it's true then Wolfram & Hart needs to act.

21.) Also in Brazil, Darla is seeking a medicine man or shaman, that can answer the question of how did she end up over 7 months pregnant.

Previously on Angel: Angel receives a letter from Willow, Angel searches for information on Buffy's location, After tracking down a Slayer artifact/weapon, Wes & Cordy are able to track down the location of an ancient temple that may be able to help. Angel investigates the ancient temple to find out that Buffy is located the home dimension of Slayers.

Pilot Summary: The Scoobies have been attempting to keep the demon population learning that Buffy isn't in Sunnydale. That have been successful so far - due to the Buffy-bot. Which Willow has reprogrammed to act more Buffy-like in responses, although it's still a poor substitute for the real Buffy.

And Now:
1.) The season opens nearly 4.5 months after Buffy's disappearance. The gang(with Spike) is hunting vampires in a graveyard - they are acting as a unit lead by Willow's telepathy.

2.) Although the Buffy-bot can act enough like Buffy, to fool people or demons that don't known her well, which includes Dawn's teachers. It can't fool Angel, whom considers it to be a very poor robot copy of the real Buffy.

3.) Giles continues to research the information that Angel give him about the types of Vampires that he (Angel) saw Buffy fighting. Fortunately Angel gave - Giles a drawing of the demon in question, to aid his research.

4.) When Dawn is teased about some of popular girls (at her school) about her "sister" being a bit dense (mentally). She's visible quite shaken - and runs into the girls' restroom to cry. While in the restroom - she touches the hand dryer - which suddenly sparks & blows up. Which naturally this really startles Dawn.

5.) After School & work, the Scoobies (Willow, Xander, Tara, Anya & Dawn) assemble at the Magic Box, where Giles informs that what Angel told him. And He (Giles) gets the gang to help research the demon.

6.) After a couple of hours - they find some information on the Turok-han - which is basically a prehistoric, primeval Vampire. The information suggests that this best is far tougher than the normal modern vampires.

7.) Xander comments that if Buffy could wipe out 2-3 of these things in a minute or two, then it kind of brings up the question, how tough is she now?

8.) The gang is also relieved to hear that Buffy will be returning fairly soon, But they still question how soon that will be.

9.) Next day - Giles contacts Angel Investigations to let Angel know what he's found out about the Turok-hans. Wesley answers the phone - and the two watchers talk for a few minutes before Angel is able to get the phone, and Giles gives him the information the gang found about the Turok-hans.

10.) Dawn doesn't inform the gang about what happened at school. Mostly because she's unsure it was her that caused the hand dryer to blow. Although several items seem to have malfunctioned after she touched them, in the past few weeks.

11.) Secretly Dawn wonders if she's still got some of the "key" energy left in her.

12.) While Patrolling the Buffy-bot is damaged by a Vampire. Although the Buffy-bot is able to be fully repaired, The Vampire escapes.

13.) The next day - the Vampire is at a bar - several hours drive from Sunnydale (up north), and he's on the phone talking to his "Boss" about what he found in Sunnydale. A group of demons also over hear this. After he gets off the phone they ask him if it's true that the Hellmouth is no longer protected by the Slayer. The Vampire tells them it's absolutely true. The Slayer is a robot.

14.) The Demon Gang heads toward Sunnydale - planning to make the hellmouth their new home.

15.) Buffy tells her daughter that they will be returning home(Sunnydale) in about a day.

Actually the gang of Demons - is Razor's Gang from "Bargaining pt 1 & 2". Even though they will be slightly reworked to make them a bit tougher - they'll still end up being cannon fodder for Buffy. But then they're just the warm up act any way.

Considering that both the Scoobies(with Buffy) & Angel Investigations will be need to retake Sunnydale - the main threat has to be large enough to warrant both groups coming together

The main threat will be an ancient and powerful order of Vampires that once called Sunnydale home, which will attempt to reclaim the Hellmouth. Hint this order was thought to have been basically wiped out by Buffy, after she dusted the Master.

Yeah - the Order of Aurelius returns, lead by a new leader named Malik . Who was a chief Lieutenant of the Order under that Master's rule. Malik is more than twice the age of Darla(nearly 1,000 years to be exact), and more powerful than Angelus.

As far as his abilities - Malik (which means "king" in Arabic) has combination of part Master & part Dracula. in other words - Hypnosis 1, and Sorcery 3 (complete with shapeshifting).
